What is Live-in Care?

The same Carer, in the home you know and love. With a dedicated professional Carer living in the home, support is tailored around individual needs, routines and preferences, whether the care is for you or for someone close to you. Everything from Personal Care and medication to cooking, shopping and simply having company.

One to one care

Dedicated support from the same person, with a second Carer to cover breaks and holidays.

Day and night

Someone close by at 3am as well as at 3pm, so nobody waits until morning for help.

Nothing changes

The same bed, the same routine, the same neighbours. The dog stays on the sofa.

Is Live-in Care right for you?

Here are some words families have shared with us before they chose Live-in Care. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

“They’re up three or four times a night now.”Daily routines get harder to manage between visits.
“I can’t keep doing the drive at six in the morning.”Often a family member is stepping in more and more to provide care.
“The Carers come four times a day and it still isn’t enough.”Visiting Care no longer feels enough to meet their needs.
“The hospital says they can come home, but only if someone’s there.”An illness or a hospital stay often makes it clear more support is needed.
“If we move, we’d be split up after fifty one years living together.”One Carer can look after both of you, for one weekly rate.

What does a Live-in Carer do?

As much or as little as you need, agreed with you before care starts and revisited as and when things change.

Personal CareWashing, dressing, continence support and help with mobility, handled with dignity.
Health & medicationPrompting or giving medication, keeping an eye on wellbeing and speaking to the GP.
Around the homeCooking, laundry, shopping, keeping things tidy and looking after pets.
Getting outAppointments, clubs, the shops or a walk, so you stay part of your community.
CompanyConversation, hobbies and routine, which for many families matters as much as the care.
Overnight supportSomeone at home through the night, so nobody waits until morning for help.

Who can benefit?

Our Carers support people with a wide range of needs, from general frailty and reduced mobility to conditions that need trained, consistent support.

Staying putOlder peopleAnyone who would rather stay at home than move into a care home.
TogetherCouplesTwo people who want to stay in the home they share, with one Carer supporting both.
Back homeAfter hospitalSupport while somebody finds their feet again after a hospital stay.
A breatherFamilies needing a breakRespite Care while a family caregiver takes time off.
Trained for itLiving with a conditionDementia, Parkinson’s, stroke recovery and other conditions needing consistent support.
Miles awayFamilies living far offWhere nobody is close enough to call in every day.

What’s included in Live-in Care?

Full time, a few weeks, or for the two of you. The same Carer and the same fixed weekly rate. What changes is how long they stay or who they’re looking after.

Respite Live-in Care

How much does Live-in Care cost?

The cost of Live-in Care can be a key part of deciding whether to stay at home or move into a care home. Live-in Care is generally considered a cost effective alternative to a good quality care home, while letting you keep a level of independence. Everyone’s needs are different, so the cost can vary depending on the level of care required. Unlike other Home Care options, the cost of our Live-in Care remains the same wherever you live across the South of England.

Your questions answered

Where does the Carer sleep?

Your Carer needs their own bedroom with a bed, somewhere to keep their belongings and access to a bathroom. They also need internet access and time each day to rest.

What happens when the Carer takes a break?

Every Carer has daily break time and regular time off. A second Carer, who also gets to know you, covers those periods so there is never a gap in support.

How quickly can care start?

It depends on the support needed and where you live. In urgent situations, such as a hospital discharge, we can often arrange care within a few days.

Can you support two people in the same home?

Yes. One Carer can support a couple for a single weekly rate, which is often why couples choose Live-in Care over two care home places.

Is Live-in Care regulated?

Yes. Alina Homecare is regulated by the Care Quality Commission and we are a member of the UK Live-in Care Association.

Can Live-in Care be short term?

Yes. Many families start with Respite Care for a few weeks, while a family Carer takes a break or somebody recovers, and decide from there.
