Reassuring Overnight Care in your home.
If your loved one needs Elderly Care, it can be especially important to receive necessary support during the night time too. Overnight Care bridges this gap, providing as much or as little night time support as needed to provide reassurance and peace of mind.
The cost of Overnight Care can be a deciding factor in the process of choosing a Home Care provider or choosing other types of care, such as residential care facilities and care homes.
Overnight Care is often a cost effective alternative to living in a care home, whilst providing a mix of independence and reassurance. Everyone’s needs are different and the costs of Overnight Care will vary depending on the level of support required. There is also a difference between the cost of Sleeping Nights and Waking Nights services.
Read our guide to learn about the cost of night time Carers and explore their essential roles. Whether you’re considering Waking Nights Care or Sleeping Nights Care, we’ve got you covered.
Your home. Your care. Your choice.
Our Overnight Care services involve a Night Carer – or Carers depending on the complexity of care needed – staying in your home to provide support during the night and into the morning. For many elderly people or those with complex heath needs it’s an additional service to daytime care visits.
Understandably, care could be needed at any time of the day or night. Typically, Overnight Care spans the period from around 9:00pm to 9:00am. Overnight Care is designed to provide this essential assistance, with trained care professionals on hand.
There are two kinds of Overnight Care available. The type of care you choose will vary according to your loved ones individual needs:
Night Carers remain on duty for around eight hours during the night. They stay awake and assist with whatever care needs arise during this time, from helping with using the bathroom to administering prescribed medication or turning in bed.
Night Carers remain on duty for around eight hours during the night. They stay awake and assist with whatever care needs arise during this time, from helping with using the bathroom to administering prescribed medication or turning in bed.
There are also two ways of receiving Overnight Care:
A Night Carer visits your home for an agreed period of time. They can either stay awake or sleep in the home of your loved on, but will leave in the morning or another Carer will visit to take over their duties.
Live-in Home Care involves a Carer moving into your home to provide round the clock care. A Waking Nights or Sleeping Nights service can be provided alongside Live-in Care, depending on your loved one’s specific needs.
Overnight Care can form part of a care plan that provides 24 Hour Home Care, or it can be provided by itself to offer extra help and reassurance during the night.
With care provided in the comfort of your loved one’s own home, they can stay close to family members, friends and neighbours. Overnight Care therefore enables you to enjoy independence along with companionship and minimal disruption to daily routines.
Our Overnight Home Care hourly rate varies according to specific needs and where your loved one lives. In general, the cost of Night Care for elderly people in the UK is comparable to the cost of Care at Home. You can also expect that choosing a Waking Nights service will cost slightly more than Sleeping Nights, because a higher level of support is provided and the Carer is required to stay awake during unsociable hours.
When you enquire about Overnight Care, we’ll meet with you and your loved one for a free home visit and discuss the best option for you. Either way, you can rest assured your loved one will receive quality care with constant supervision.
Various factors influence the cost of Night Time Carers. These include:
Prices may vary based on where you live across the South of England.
Prices may vary based on where you live across the South of England.
Fees will differ depending on whether you choose an agency, independent caregiver, or a regulated Home Care company. Alina Homecare is a Home Care company, which means our daily rates include extra features such as central support, a care monitoring app., extensively vetted and trained Carers, and the reassurance that care received is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Private carers do not have to be regulated in the same way, and an introductory Home Care agency may not have provided the same rigorous vetting or staff training that a Home Care company, like Alina Homecare, does.
Night Time Carers play a crucial role in supporting the elderly and those with chronic conditions with the activities of daily living during the quieter, more vulnerable hours. This can include all sorts of responsibilities, which are always itemised in personalised care plans:
There are lots of different reasons to choose Overnight Care as your Home Care service. An Overnight Caregiver can support your loved one with physical needs, both regular and complex, as well as providing Companion Care. It can also be provided as a type of Respite Care to enable family caregivers to have a regular break.
Some of our clients who receive Overnight Care chose the service to help with the following needs:
After Hospital Care can include Overnight Care, especially if an operation or illness has increased frailty or vulnerability to falling. In these instances, 24 Hour Home Care can be particularly helpful for peace of mind and prevent elderly people falling.
If your loved one struggles with incontinence, Overnight Care ensures trained help is on hand to assist with using the bathroom. Our professional caregivers can also help with maintaining personal hygiene and changing a stoma or catheter.
Overnight Care Workers can provide a calming, reassuring presence if your loved one has a condition that means they regularly wake through the night and struggle with restlessness. This could be due to a dementia diagnosis, anxiety, elderly paranoia or many other conditions.
If your loved one struggles with mobility due to frailty or chronic conditions like acquired brain or spinal injury, Overnight Care can support with regular daily activities such as turning in bed or using the bathroom.
If your loved one needs frequent support more during the night, a Waking Nights service can provide necessary reassurance with hours of care at your disposal.
Waking Nights are a popular choice for people with more complex needs. If your loved one is recovering from surgery or a hospital stay or needs Palliative Care, Waking Nights may be the best care option to give reassurance and extra peace of mind. Home Care providers like Alina Homecare can even provide two Overnight Carers for a waking night if your loved one has specific complex needs.
If your loved one has dementia, they may become confused during the night and unsure of what time of day it is. Our Overnight Care Workers provide a calming reassurance by staying awake for an agreed number of hours, which can also reduce sleep walking or elderly paranoia.
Primary family caregivers often feel concerned about leaving their loved ones alone at night, but providing 24-hour care can feel overwhelming and, at times, impossible. Having a professional Overnight Carer to bridge the gap between evening and morning can provide reassurance with round the clock Home Care.
Sleeping Nights are slightly different than Waking Nights as the Carer will sleep in your loved one’s home in a private room. Of course, they’re always ready to help if needed at any time of the night. This is ideal if your loved one only needs occasional support, and perhaps needs assistance using the bathroom, or with other conditions that could cause discomfort while sleeping.
Sleeping Nights may be sufficient if your loved one doesn’t need physical care. For instance, a Sleeping Nights service could provide reassurance if your loved one becomes anxious during the night or worries when they wake up alone. The average cost of Sleeping Nights is also less than Waking Nights.

However, everyone’s needs are different and we encourage you to make an informed decision about what’s best for your loved one. For instance, if they need specialist medication or equipment, a nursing home or hospice care may be a more suitable option. If in doubt, explore the differences between Home Care and care homes.
